The British Standards that regulate standards and codes of practice for fire detection are - Fire Alarms in Buildings B.S.5839-1:2017 and Fire Alarms in Multi Occupation Dwellings B.S.5839-6:2017.

There is a wide range of choices available, from ‘Audible Only’ systems to more sophisticated monitored systems.
BS 5839: Pt.6, among other things, is relevant to dwellings, including those with multiple occupations. For a landlord, compliance with the latest standards is obviously the best line of defence in any claim made against them.

BS 5839: Pt.1 is primarily concerned with saving lives and reducing injuries. However, it also contains recommendations for reducing property damage.
Good fire safety practices and adherence to the Code can give the best possible early warning of fire and reduce the financial impact and human suffering.

I got City Alarms in for my business premises after a break in. Very good advice given at the time and we upgraded to a better alarm system which was more suited to my premises and they also installed CCTV.
That was over 5 years ago and in that time their system has prevented 4 attempted break-ins and saved my company ££££ and I now have the peace of mind that the premises are well protected out of hours.
The system is maintained by city at a very reasonable cost, and their call-out service is first class.
I would highly recommend it, and I am now asking city to install an alarm system at my house.
